PGK Art: On the left: Former American Can Company 1.2 million square feet building (the birthplace of the modern American beer can), at Dey Street & St. Paul’s Avenue, Jersey City, N.J. The American Can Company, previously known as Canco, was responsible for making aerosol cans, milk cartons, and glass bottles with brand names such as Dixie and Marathon. The company built the factory in 1929. It employed over 3,000 people. The building’s basement was a rail station.
