Bust of Sylvette: this 36-foot, 60-ton sculpture executed by Carl Nesjär (1967) is an adaptation of Pablo Picasso’s 24-inch sheet metal sculpture created in 1934. The dark lines on the surface were achieved by grinding away the cement coating of the sculpture to reveal the dark aggregate underneath. It stands in the midst of three 30-story residential towers designed by I.M.Pei. The apartment complex is bounded by Bleecker Street on the North, LaGuardia Place on the West, Houston Street on the South & Mercer Street on the East.
