Touch-Tone Telephone. In 1964, Bell Labs developed a telephone in which push-buttons and electronic tones replaced circular dials and electrical pulse dignaling. Extensive human factors tests were conducted to determine the best positions of the buttons to limit errors and maximize dialing speed.
