1988-05-99: Hanka’s Trip to Ramos Mejia, Argentina:
- Circa May 1988 – Hanka: This looks like the street you have to walk down from the railroad station to the exact neighborhood in Ramos Mejia where our house used to be
- Circa May 1988 – Hanka: this picture is the street on which our house used to be located … looking towards the circle beyond that tractor on the left. As you can see there are no buildings there now, they have been razed, apparently as part of a project to create a boulevard. There are still a few homes and stores on the circle. The one building that is just barely seen to the right of the red tractor/car is where the family Trucco lived Their house was just to the left of ours.
- Circa May 1988 – Hanka: This picture is at the end of the block where we lived. Now stationed there are trucks that create a quick market.
- Circa May 1988 – Hanka: This is the circle from the point of view of the street that I walked from the train station (Ramos Mejia). On the other side to the right is some sort of hospital or facility. On the right, the buildings are on two different blocks. The street in between them was the street I was looking for which was supposed to have our house on it. I found the house # that was off by a # (the Trucco home) and then the rest of the block was just a flat field. On the other side all the houses still stood. Mom had given me a picture of our house with the house number on it. I stopped a little old lady and asked about our house. She said she recognized it but didn’t quite place it. When I mentioned the name of the neighbor, Trucco, she said that was the house still standing. So I went over there and introduced myself. I was well dressed, skirt, blouse and such, so it took a bit of time till the girl behind the door finally called indoors and a woman came out. They explained that at first they thought I was selling Bibles and thus were suspicious of me. When they realized who I was, they invited me in and offered me tea. The woman was apparently your playmate in those days. Mrs. Trucco was still alive also. It was a lovely visit and they are the ones who told me about the stopped and supposedly abandoned project of creating a boulevard down that street.
