May 19, 2015 — Mt. Saint Helens

Dear William, Daniel, Catherine, (and Michael & Baby Girl Y) (and your parents), (and any future descendants and their parents),

First things first — TODAY we celebrate Kelly’s birthday!

Happy Birthday Kelly!!!

Happy Birthday Kelly!!!

Well, Kelly was born 45 years ago, and the world has been a better place for that; but, 35 years ago, something else happened, that was very fascinating, but not as good — a mountain exploded! Yes! It EXPLODED!!!

On May 18, 1980, Mt. Saint Helens, which had been a dormant volcano in Washington State, erupted, blew up, destroyed the countryside, killed people in the area, flattened forests, moved rivers, and altered the earth is many other ways. I remember watching it on the news — it was very exciting!

Here is a more focused explanation of what happened and how it happened:

Here is a picture of the Mt. Saint Helens, before the explosion, and after the explosion:

Babcia Krysia and I took a trip to Mt. Saint Helens in 2004 — it was quite a sight!
