OBITUARY

Halina Porowski (Née Strakacz)
AUGUST 22, 1924 – SEPTEMBER 16, 2020

Porowski-Strakacz, Halina Maria “Ania” (1924-2020) It is with sadness that we announce the death of our mother on September 16, at the age of 96 years. She joins her husband Kazimierz who died in 1986. Born in Warsaw, Poland, she courageously participated in the 1944 uprising as a field nurse, under the pseudonym “Anka”, and the Cross of Bravery was granted to her by the Polish state. After a stay with the Polish air force in England, she reconnects with Kazimierz who was finishing his studies in Brussels after having survived the German concentration camp. They married in Belgium in 1948 and immigrated to Canada with two children in 1951. Her life was inspired by her deep faith. She is survived by her brother Stanislaw (Barbara), her six children, Stan (Kalila), Janusz (Sylvie), Tony (Anna), Andy (Leslie), Maisia (Jan) and Anne-Marie (Rami) as well as her 17 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, relatives and friends. The family would like to warmly thank the staff of Résidence Mont-Royal for their unconditional love, dedication and professionalism. Tributes will be paid to her at St-Thomas d’Acquin Church (311, rue St-Thomas in St-Lambert, Qc) on Wednesday, September 23 at 10:30 am. Mass will be celebrated at 11 am.
