July 26, 2011 — Not everyone named “Kostro” is from our family

Dear William (and Daniel, Catherine, Michael & Baby Girl Y) (and your parents), (and any future descendants and their parents),

I found this obituary (William, an obituary is a notice about the death of a person, sometimes detailing some facts about that pareson’s life and relationships) on the Internet:

“John B. Kostro, 83, of Deltona, FL a World War II veteran and an avid golfer received his wings to heaven on July 21, 2011. He was born in Windber, PA to the late Anna (Wojcicki) and Frank Kostro. He was a brother to the late Frank Kostro (Nellie), Josephine White (James), Stanley Kostro (Evelyn), Walter Kostro (Julia), Edward Kostro (Josephine), Chester Kostro (Jean), Thomas Kostro (Anna Mae), and he is survived by his brother Charles Kostro. John moved to Florida 22 years ago from Stratford, CT with his loving wife of 60 years Helen (Mekula) who has survived him. He worked for Raybestos for 32 years after working in the coal mines. He was a devoted father to the late John A. Kostro and his surviving wife Anne (Dete). He was a devoted father to his surviving children Stephen Kostro, George Kostro, Diane Kostro, Dawn and her husband Russ Gabehart. He always held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren who called him Pop Pop Danielle Kostro, Jessica and her husband Robert Singer, Georgette and her husband Frank Carrero, Jennifer and her husband Brandon Tseng, Katie Berenato and Faith Gabehart. John adored his great grandchildren Sean and Alexandria Carrero and Michael Singer. He cherished all of his nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held on August 13, 2011 at the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home Chapel in Enterprise, FL at 11 a.m.”

This John Kostro is not (to my knowledge) a member of our family. Nonetheless, as I was researching the Kostro family name, I encountered members of his family who were very generous in sharing some information about their family. Here is their Family Tree as I have it:

John Kostro’s nephew, Frank Kostro, was a baseball player!

But, there is more to this story — his father was born in Kostry Noski, Poland. Kostry Noski is one of the places that I told you about that bears our family name!!!

Love,

Dziadziuś Paweł.
