Dear William (and Daniel, Catherine, Michael & Baby Girl Y) (and your parents), (and any future descendants and their parents),
Let me tell you about the day you were born:
May 26, 2011 — Your parents told us that your Mom’s doctor recommended that it was time for you to be born; they set Friday, May 27, as the day when things would begin happening. Your Babcia Krysia and I were very excited, and wanted to be there to welcome you into the family. Since your Mom was going to the hospital at 6 am on May 27, we decided to drive from our home in Westfield, NJ to Williamsburg, VA.
Along the way, we stopped for a short leg-stretch at the National Harbor near Washington, DC. There we saw a giant coming out of the ground, and I though of you — a giant about to be born.
At the National Harbor, I also took a picture of Babcia Krysia sitting on a butterfly:
Hey, William — why did the boy throw butter our the window? — To see a butterfly!
Anyway, back to the story:
.
Once we were back in our car, your Babcia Krysia took a picture of me driving, and we sent it to your parents, so that they knew how excited we were, and that we will be there soon. We are coming!
As we were driving, your Dad was keeping us up to date on how things were moving along. We got a picture of your Mom checking into the hospital; and then another picture of your Mom waiting for your birth.
When we finally arrived at the hospital, your Grandparents Nell and Joe were already there — they spent the whole day waiting for you.
From time to time your Dad would come out to the waiting room, and let us know how things were moving along. We visited with your Mom.
The nurse told us that it was unlikely that you would be born before the morning — so your Grandparents Nell and Joe went home; and Babcia Krysia and I went to our hotel room.
At 1 am, we got a call from your Dad, and he told us that it looks like you will be born in a few hours. We continued to wait.
At 5 am, your Dad called and told us that the doctors and your parents decided that it was time for you to be born. We were all so happy!
Saturday, May 28, 2011: On the way to the hospital, I may have been driving faster than the speed limit — suddenly, flashing red and blue lights behind my car! We stoped, and a police officer came over to ask why he stopped us. [Are you kidding, I thought; you stopped us, and now you are asking me why?]. I told him that we were on our way to the hospital to meet you — after he checked me out on his computer, he told us the best way to get to the hospital (but, NO ticket was issued).
When we arrived at the hospital, it was a beautiful day.
As we reached the maternity area, we heard over the loudspeaker the announcement of your birth!
After a short while, your Dad came out and told us that you were a BOY!!! Great! Hurrah!!! We have a new prince in the family!
Here are some more photos from that time:
Love,
Dziadziuś Paweł.
